About the Irish Lotto

The Irish Lotto or National Lottery in Ireland launched in 1987 and is the country’s state Lotto. It is hugely popular with a whopping two thirds of adults in Ireland claiming to regularly play Lotto games and millions from all over the world betting on it.

• 6 main balls plus a bonus ball are drawn from a selection of 1 – 47. E.g.: 1 6 16 28 32 45 Bonus 22
• Betting without the bonus ball (best payout) – you can bet on up to 5 balls appearing from any of the main 6 drawn
• Betting with the bonus ball (slightly lower payout because it’s easier!) – you can bet on up to 5 balls appearing from any of the main 6 drawn or the bonus ball

The Irish Lotto is drawn twice weekly on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 19:45pm (GMT). (Normally you need to have your bets placed between 15-30 minutes before the draw takes place)

£150,000 Winner

Glyn Sterland of Woodseats, Sheffield placed a bet on the Irish Lotto and really showcased why so many people love Irish Lotto betting – it was a single £1 bet on five numbers that netted him £150,000! Glyn advised that he’d been betting on these exact same numbers regularly for the past five or six years. The numbers he chose are the days of the month each of his five children are born on. Nice and easy to remember.

We’re just happy that Glyn won at Betfred who, at the time of writing, have the best odds for 5 balls on the Irish Lotto. If Glyn had happened to bet online at a Ladbrokes instead he would have been £25,000 out of pocket! Nice one Glyn!

£150,000 Winner

Irish Lotto betting newbie Gary Beck won £150,000 from a £1 stake on five balls at Betfred. Gary, who previously played the UK National Lottery for years without winning a penny, was persuaded by a friend to try betting on the Irish Lotto at Betfred due to the fantastic odds. Subsequently, a mere six weeks later he managed to bag £150,000!

While we don’t know exact details here, we can see on the Ladbrokes Lotto website that there has been a certain Mr M E who has won a whopping three times! Mr M E has won twice on the Irish Lotto – firstly, £41,504 then £50,001 – and once on the 49’s – £18,405. We wish we knew the exact numbers he’s chosen so we can get some of his luck!
